Road Trip Adventure: Quaint Towns of Germany to Denmark- Flensburg

Updated: Oct 23

There’s something truly magical about hitting the road in Germany, especially when you're cruising along the famous Autobahn. The thrill of zooming past charming towns while experiencing the sheer freedom of the open road is like no other!

As we sped along this legendary highway, we passed through Hamburg, where the expansive port came into view. Millions of shipping containers created a vibrant tapestry of colours against the backdrop of the bustling harbour—just imagine all the global stories packed into those boxes!

We continued our journey toward Denmark, making a quick stop for one night in the picturesque town of Flensburg. Nestled at the innermost tip of the Flensburg Fjord, this quaint coastal gem lies just about 15 minutes from the German-Danish border. Known for its charming cobblestone streets and beautiful waterfront, Flensburg is a postcard town that my iPhone camera just couldn’t do justice! 📸

In Flensburg, we had the pleasure of dining at the gorgeous Kanalschuppen, which translates to “the canal shed.” The restaurant’s location on the canal provided a stunning view, and the ambiance was simply enchanting. I enjoyed a delicious meal that showcased local flavours. I cannot remember the name of the dish I ordered but let me tell you I thought I was eating a variation of a damn good Sharkwich! I was tickled! We stayed at the HOTELAM Fjord which was small, but functional. It was the perfect way to unwind after a day of driving.

As the sun set over the canal, we were treated to a breathtaking view, with the warm glow enveloping the old church and adding to the town's charm. The sunset set the perfect scene, casting golden hues over the historic areas, including the brick-gabled Nordertor, built around 1595, which stands as the last remaining city gate.

But the real highlight of our Flensburg adventure? Discovering the quirky Schietwetter store! 🍂 Its name, humorously translating to “shit weather” in English, made me chuckle and peaked my interest. Walking in felt like entering a cozy haven tailored for those inevitable rainy days. I found myself wanting to buy everything: colourful umbrellas and warm snuggly hats, coats and hoodies all cleverly curated for “Schietwetter” conditions! My purchases did have me prepared for the unexpected rain in Denmark

Before hitting the road again, we couldn’t resist a quick stop for some of the best bubble tea we’ve ever had! 🥤 It was my first try of a bubbletea frozen coffee drink. The perfect sweet treat to fuel us up for the next leg of our journey.

Our stay in Flensburg was brief but oh-so-relaxing, allowing us to recharge while soaking in the charm of this delightful town. Every corner turned offered surprises and local flavours, creating the perfect backdrop for our adventure. I will definitely be back here for a much longer stay.

So here’s to epic road trips, exploring postcard-perfect towns, and embracing whatever weather comes our way! Next stop: Denmark! 🇩🇰✨
