Who I Am
I was born on the beautiful twin-island republic of Trinidad & Tobago.... (two islands, one country) Growing up in such a culturally diverse location afforded me the unique opportunity to immerse myself in a variety of traditions and religions different from my own. Despite being from a Muslim family, I attended Presbyterian school and Sunday school, spent time at a Methodist church, and observed the colourful sights, sounds, and sumptuous delicacies of numerous Divali celebrations.
In Trinidad, we celebrated and embraced everyone's traditions. A deep-rooted love for my cultural heritage and an unwavering commitment to inclusivity and diversity...this kaleidoscope of humanity fed into my passion for community and service to others from an early age.
It is in this spirit that I infuse this trademark warmth and enthusiasm into every aspect of my life.
Growing up, I was inspired and influenced by strong women, such as Maya Angelou, Princess Diana, and Hillary Clinton.
One of my favourite childhood pastimes was "playing Oprah," where I would conduct live interviews with countless fascinating pretend guests. In my adolescence, I embarked on a new chapter relocating to the United States, where I found myself working at a renowned establishment cherished by some of the world's most illustrious entertainers.
"I am forever grateful for the friendships I made there."
My Story Continued...
Swiftly evolving into a pivotal contributor within the organisation, it soon became my second home. My time there was graced with learning experiences and opportunities that left an indelible mark on my life, including poignant encounters with a few of my childhood inspirations, among them Maya Angelou.
This journey sparked my love of Theatre & Musicals which inspired me to become involved with some of Broadway's Tony award-winning productions, the opportunity to be an Executive Producer on an Emmy Winning series & a founding member at the Museum of Broadway in Times Square.
My journey took a profoundly meaningful turn following two life-altering experiences: experiencing workplace sexual harassment in 2015 and receiving a frightening, life-threatening mis-diagnosis in 2017.
These challenges sparked a sense of resilience and determination that inspired me to raise awareness and dismantle the stigma, shame, and silence surrounding both workplace harassment and women's health issues, especially within my Indo -Caribbean community.
The medical mis diagnosis was featured on ZocDoc Patient Stories which you can read here.
